Shell human rights trial in US stalls again

Another delay was announced Wednesday in the potentially landmark trial of oil giant Royal Dutch Shell over allegations of complicity in Nigeria's human rights abuses. A pre-trial conference scheduled to take place in federal court in New York was cancelled at short notice and the trial has been put off indefinitely…Meanwhile, the plaintiffs declared a victory in the Second Circuit Court of Appeals in New York, which Wednesday overturned a lower court decision to dismiss the suit against Shell's Nigerian subsidiary…The appeals court decision now allows the plaintiffs to attempt to build a case against Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria and show that the subsidiary has sufficient US connections to be tried in a US court.
