Vietnam: CSO statement links environmental and human rights issues of gas project, calls for retraction of investment decision by Japanese companies

In the end of March, Mitsui Corporation announced its final investment decision (FID) and the Japan Organization for Metals and Energy Security (JOGMEC) its FID and loan guarantee provision to Vietnam’s Block B-O Mon project. Environmental NGOs are urging Mitsui and JOGMEC to retract their decisions and JOGMEC to end support for this project as the project is allegedly linked to environmental and human rights issues including financial connection to Myanmar military.

The Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited Mitsui Corporation, JOGMEC, JBIC, and PTT Public Company Limited to respond to the statement. Mitsui, JOGMEC and JBIC responded. PTT Public Company Limited did not.
