Groups urge UN Human Rights Council to investigate human rights situation in the Philippines; recall killings of labour, land rights & farmers' rights advocates

Human Rights groups spearhead a Global Day of Action following the opening of the 45th United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) session to urge the UNHRC to forcefully investigate the human rights situation in the Philippines. The groups note the observation of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, that the human rights situation in the country has worsened with the enactment of the Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020.

The groups recalled the killings of Zara Alvarez, a farmers' rights advocate; Jory Porquia, a labour and migrants' rights advocate, and Randall Echanis, a land rights advocate.
