HP responded

HP is committed to respecting human rights across our global supply chain and we prohibit the use of involuntary labor of any kind. HP also commits to respecting fundamental rights and freedoms defined in the United Nations (UN) Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) in an approach consistent with the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs) as outlined in our Human Rights Policy.

Embedded in our commitment is to conduct human rights due diligence to identify, prevent, mitigate, and document potential and actual human rights impacts. This work involves risk sensing, risk assessment, engagement with a range of different stakeholders, and auditing using relevant industry standards. We also assess performance and complete corrective action where required and integrate what we learn into our capability-building and prevention programs. We require our contracted suppliers to follow the HP Supplier Code of Conduct which outlines our expectations for our suppliers, including on forced labor and involuntary work.

The HP Supplier Code of Conduct expressly forbids any forced, bonded, indentured, involuntary prison labor, slavery or trafficking of persons. We require our manufacturing and non-manufacturing suppliers to require their next tier suppliers to acknowledge and implement the HP Supplier Code of Conduct and hand it down to their sub-tier suppliers. We also require suppliers to monitor the performance of their next tier suppliers against the requirements of our Code. As outlined in the HP Human Rights Policy, we prohibit modern slavery within HP and require our suppliers’ adherence to the HP Supplier Code of Conduct and other implementing policies and labor standards.

In addition, we contractually require our distributors to adhere to all applicable internationally recognized human rights standards. We review and strengthen our policies regularly, including an update to the HP Supplier Code of Conduct every two years.

You can read more about our approach and efforts in our Sustainable Impact Report, Modern Slavery Transparency Statement, and our Human Rights Progress Report.
