India: Employees allege Yazaki fired 153 workers without legal notice; incl. co. comment

"Bengaluru: Workers claim 153 sacked, Yazaki says only 53 told to leave", 27 December 2022

Workers of Yazaki Pvt. Ltd in Neelasandra, who are demanding higher wages and dignified working conditions, said the company terminated 153 of their colleagues - 70% of them women - allegedly without prior legal notice. According to the workers, they have been classified as trainees though they have been working in the firm for several years.

The workers alleged they are forced to work double (16 hours) and sometimes triple shifts (24 hours), and not granted causal leaves.

...HR of Yazaki Pvt. Ltd, Neelasandra, said: "According to the standing order of the company, trainees are recruited only for three years; when it comes to salaries, the company is following government norms." He added: "The company has around 2,000 workers, and the company terminated only 53 on December 12. The workers are influenced by political parties and are trying to harm the company's reputation. The court will further address the issue."
