"20-year-old laborer dies in lift collapse at Ahmedabad factory,"

A 20-year-old migrant laborer from Uttar Pradesh died today after a lift collapsed in a factory of Tex World Fashion Private Limited located in East Ahmedabad.

Another laborer present at the location stated that the problem with the lift occurred while they were loading materials. The lift operator took the lift up but then brought it down. The workers alleged that there were no safety measures in place at the factory. One worker claimed that if the lift had been properly maintained, the young man would still be alive.

It is also reported that when the colleagues of the deceased worker stopped the authorities from taking the body of the youth, insisting they wait for the family to arrive, the police used force to disperse them.

[The Resource Centre was unable to contact Tex Fashion World to invite the company to respond to the allegations. An email address for Tex Fashion's parent company, Sekhani Industries, was not working; if a response is received, this page will be updated accordingly.]
