Mozambique: Climate CSO reports Korean companies & financiers backing LNG projects linked to human rights violations; incl. co. response

A report by Solutions for Our Climate (SFOC) revealed significant participation of South Korean corporations in Mozambique’s LNG projects and alleged that these operations are connected to forced relocations, inadequate compensation, and the loss of livelihoods.

Natural gas projects have been identified as the roots of the insurgency in the area as perceived social exclusion and discontent significantly contributing to the recruitment and escalation of the insurgency.

Business & Human Rights Resource Centre contacted KOGAS, Samsung Heavy Industries, Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries, Hanhwa Ocean, Daewoo E&C, Export-Import Bank of Korea, Korea Trade Insurance Corporation, and Korea Development Bank for a response to the report. Only KOGAS responded.
