Myanmar: Garment workers concerned manager is trafficking women workers

"Workers are worried about human trafficking because female managers matchmaking with Chinese men", 14 March 2024

The workers from Sun Good garment factory from Inn Takaw Township, Bago Region which manufactures jean[s] said that the Chinese manager...is introducing Chinese men to them and matchmaking them.

“She is matchmaking with every pretty Burmese lady. She tends to bring a girl with her when she go back to China. It is not sure weather those men are single or not,” said a worker.

The manager lady had gone back to China for about 20 days and the workers don’t know that weather she [took] the girl she matchmade with her. Some girls respond to her matchmaking although most refuse according to the workers.

“She shows them the pictures of men and [says] that its her cousin. She is doing these things secretly and calling the girl[s] she targeted to her office and talk[s] to [them] via [the] interpreter,” said the worker.

The workers said that the reason they reported the issue is because they are worried about human trafficking and [the manager] taking advantage of the current political situations.
