Nokia allegedly helped enable Russian surveillance system; co. denies allegations
In March 2022, The New York Times alleged that for more than five years, Nokia had provided equipment and services that linked a government digital surveillance tool (SORM) to the nation’s largest telecommunications network.
Nokia denied the allegations saying that it “does not manufacture, install or service SORM equipment or systems” and that it is required to ensure that the networking products it sells have “passive capability to interface with lawful intercept equipment of law enforcement agencies.”
