Qatar: Migrant worker allegedly faces intimidation by Exblowra Trading and Contracting Co after requesting to change employer; includes co comments

Migrant-Rights.Org has published a letter by a migrant worker in Qatar going by the alias AJ, as part of its letter series.

AJ states he was employed at Exblowra Trading and Contracting Co, in Qatar from 2008 until 2020 and that he faced intimidation from the company after applying for an employer change, which was approved under the government's system. AJ alleges the company has filled 2 vexatious criminal cases and one civil case against him in retaliation. As a result, he was imprisoned twice; the first time he was imprisoned for 8 days following an absconding complaint by the company, then he was acquitted. The second time followed a criminal complaint made by the company for QR 4 million (USD275k). He has been released on bail with a travel ban.

He also accuses the company of not adhering to the government rules, in particular with regards to the wage protection system and states the company does not give contract copies, proper leave salary or end of service benefits to its employees.

Migrant-Rights.Org sought a response from Exblowra Trading and Contracting Co and has published excerpts of this alongside AJ's allegations. The company denies the allegations and stated that it complies with the standards set by the government.
