Ricardo Pugong Mayumi, indigenous environmental activis, was shot dead on Friday, March 2, in Sitio Angadal, Ambabag, Kiangan, Ifugao. Civil society is alleging his killing may have been connected to his work as one of the leaders of the Ifugao Peasant Movement (IPM) and his opposition to the Quadriver Mini Hydro Dam, owned by Sta Clara Power Corporation. Mr Mayumi and 9 of his colleagues – also IPM officers – all allegedly received death threats prior to the killing.
