Siemens response

  • Siemens AG was one of the first companies to suspend all new business with and international supplies to Russia in 2022 following the Russian attack on Ukraine. In May 2022, Siemens AG also decided to withdraw from the Russian market and initiated proceedings to discontinue its industrial operations and all industrial business activities. Since then, the Siemens divisions have handled their activities in an orderly process.
  • Prior to February 24, 2022 and the entry into force of the additional sanctions against Russia, Siemens had supplied industrial goods, including CNC controls, to Russia directly and indirectly through partners, in strict compliance with all EU and U.S. regulations in force and applicable at the time. With the current sanctions coming into force at the end of February 2022, these deliveries, including spare parts, to Russia were immediately stopped. Siemens has not delivered any sanctioned goods to Russia. To ensure this, we have long established a very robust, highly automated control system as well as a highly specialized global team of experts. We have always made it very clear that we are acting in accordance with the international sanctions and that we will not compromise on their implementation. However, we cannot prevent Siemens products that were already in Russia before the current sanctions came into force from continuing to be used there.
  • Unfortunately, it cannot always be ruled out that certain goods may enter Russia without the knowledge of the manufacturer. Siemens is continuously monitoring further developments in this area. In order to counteract the risk of attempts by third parties to circumvent sanctions, we have also initiated measures to prevent the delivery of Siemens products to Russia by other companies as far as possible. Among other things, we immediately block all directly and indirectly involved companies if we become aware of an attempt to circumvent them, and report cases in Germany to the responsible authorities.
