Singapore: Family of Indian construction worker question his death at worksite for upcoming Tengah integrated rail & bus depot, incl. co. failure to call an ambulance; incl. cos non-responses

At the end of December 2023, The Straits Times reported the family of an Indian construction worker who died while at work in Singapore earlier in December are seeking answers to ‘the circumstances’ of his death.

The worker was employed by Transit-Mixed Concrete Pumping Services as a concrete pump assistant when he died at the worksite for the upcoming Tengah integrated rail and bus depot. The main contractor of the project is China Railway 11 Bureau Group (Singapore branch).

The family question why an ambulance was allegedly not called, and why the worker was allegedly not taken to the nearest hospital.

The Straits Times reports the workers’ death leaves the family with ‘thousands of dollars’ in debt, used to pay for his education and the fees for him to work in Singapore.

In January 2024, the Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited Transit-Mixed Concrete and China Railway 11 Bureau Group to respond to the article. Transit-Mixed Concrete and China Railway 11 Bureau Group did not respond.
