UK: Outsourced NHS support staff strike over pay as negotiations between union and Serco fail

Support staff employed by outsourcing firm Serco to work across Barts Health NHS hospitals went on strike after negotiations for better pay failed. The workers, represented by Unite, requested a 30p per hour pay rise which was rejected. The workers allege that outsourced workers faced lower pay and working conditions compared to their in-house counterparts. Serco states that it wished to pay workers fairly and that it had agreed to pay the London living wage.
