Our database: Using filters
Our library of curated information relating to the field of business and human rights contains over 168,000 pages – increasing daily. For targeted results, use filters based on our taxonomy: the terms we apply to pages when we add them to the website.
Filters explained
Content type: Know the type of content you’re looking for (e.g. is it a news article/briefing/company response)? Select here or leave blank to see all pages that fit your search.
Language: Are you looking for content in a specific language? Select one here or leave blank to see results in the site language you’re currently using. If you want results in all our languages, switch the ‘Show all languages’ toggle at the top of the page to ON.
Sectors: Choose a sector to see all results tagged with a particular industry.
Companies: We curate news and related resources on over 20,000 companies in our database. Narrow your results down by choosing the company you’re looking for.
Does article include allegations: We’ve been tracking allegations of abuse linked to a limited scope of projects and sectors since 2015. To only see results related to these projects, select this option.
OR/AND operator: Use this to control the scope of your results. “OR” will display results which meet any one of the selected criteria within a field. “AND” requires results to meet all the selected criteria within a field, so will return fewer, more targeted results. The “AND” operator is always applied between fields, so selecting criteria in more than one field will always narrow down your results.
Tags: Tags help us organise information about what abuse has taken place, which rights are infringed, actors implicated and additional thematic information. Use these to filter results by specific rights (e.g. “freedom of association” or “labour rights: general”), actions (e.g. “gender discrimination”; “wage theft”), or groups (e.g. “Indigenous Peoples”, “migrants and immigrants”). If you’re looking for news on a specific theme or event, such as “gig economy” or “Olympic Games”, you may find tags help narrow your search.
Regions/Locations: Use geographical filters to narrow your search to a specific country or region.
Attack type: These filters apply to entries in our database of attacks against human rights defenders. If you know you’re looking for HRD attacks, use these filters to search for specific types of attack.
Date range: Our search results are organised chronologically. Use these filters to set a time frame for when the page was published/reported incident took place.
