Egypt: Organi Group's Hala Tourism reportedly extorting millions out of Palestinians fleeing Gaza

A company owned by an influential Egyptian businessman from North Sinai and ally of President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi is reportedely extorting millions out of Palestinians trying to flee Israel's war on Gaza, according to investigative reporting from OCCRP and international and Egyptian newsites.

Hala Consulting and Tourism Services firm is now part of the Organi Group, a conglomarote owned by Sinai tribal leader and business tycoon Ibrahim al-Organi. Hala is one of eight companies operating under his Organi Group, which also includes a joint venture, Misr Sinai, with the Defense Ministry’s industrial conglomerate, the National Services Projects Organization (NSPO), according to a 2014 interview with Organi.

In February 2024, the Egyptian Foreign Minister denied the allegations of profiting from the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza or that the state "condoned the crossing transfer fees charged by Hala". The Oragni Group refuse to comment on the reporting.
