Philippines: Around 4000 garment workers retrenched from five factories due to global recession; incl. co. responses

In October 2022, it was reported that workers from five factories in the Mactan Export Processing Zone had been retrenched workers due to global recession, reporting a reduction and drop in orders. The factories were: Mactan Apparel, Metro Wear, Globalwear Manufacturing, Feeder Apparel Corporation and Vertex One Apparel Philippines.

In March 2024, Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited adidas (allegedly sourcing from Mactan Apparel, Metro Wear, Feeder Apparel Corporation), Gymshark (allegedly sourcing from Mactan Apparel, Metro Wear, Feeder Apparel Corporation), Lululemon (allegedly sourcing from Mactan Apparel, Metro Wear), Under Armour (allegedly sourcing from Metro Wear, Globalwear Manufacturing, Feeder Apparel Corporation, Vertex One Apparel Philippines) and Nike ( allegedly sourcing from Feeder Apparel Corporation) to respond. The responses can be found below.

Lululemon had previously been approached in November 2022 to respond to the the retrenchments. Their reponse can be found below.
