Birmans vs Total: case closed?

...on 29 June, the Brussels Court of Cassation closed the case against the French petrol giant Total for crimes against humanity. Debate centred on whether the court could allow the plaintiffs, four Burmese refugees living in Belgium, access to universal jurisdiction given that they were not Belgian citizens...On 13 April, the Brussels court of arbitration found that the new law [on universal jurisdiction] contravenes the Convention on refugee status, according to which nationals and refugees must be given equal access to the law. The court concluded that it was not within its mandate to remedy the legislator's incoherence.
