Chevron seeks ‘to be treated fairly’ by Brazil

Chevron...has asked “to be treated fairly” in Brazil over its offshore oil spill last November. Federal prosecutors in Brazil have filed a case for civil damages of about $11bn, and Chevron may also face criminal charges. John Watson, Chevron’s chief executive, told analysts on a call to discuss the company’s fourth-quarter results that it “didn’t necessarily put our best foot forward in some of the communication” when the spill first occurred, but “the event itself was handled in textbook fashion”...“I can’t predict what may come,” he said. “All we ask is to be treated fairly, consistent with the facts, and to be treated as Petrobras or others would be treated in a similar circumstance.” [also refers to BP, Petrobras]
