… We take our relationship with the communities in the area of our operations very seriously, and devote significant human and financial resources to our social responsibility program to engage with those communities. We strongly disagree with the characterizations described…and appreciate the opportunity to respond. For the past two months, the people involved in this matter have trespassed onto, and illegally occupied and cleared lands over which Oxy, as operator of the Caño Limón field, has property rights…This matter has been addressed in appropriate public legal proceedings with the participation of applicable government authorities…[and] entire process has taken place peacefully and without incident, and the human rights of the trespassers have been protected.
