Environmental activists urged Americans today to prevent Anglo American…from mining one of Alaska’s most abundant tracts of wilderness…he [Natural Resources Defence] council claimed that Anglo American’s [Pebble] mine would destroy 60 miles of salmon run and create billions of tonnes of waste, risking contamination of the surrounding wilderness…A spokesman for Anglo American said…the company was currently in “very early stage exploration” of Pebble…“If we can’t build it in a way that safeguards the environment and natural beauty of Alaska, we won’t go ahead.” [also refers to Tiffany, Mappin & Webb and Goldsmiths]
