[DOC] Statement by Newmont Mining regarding incident at Ntotoroso, Ghana

About 4am on Tuesday, 6th June, a group of about 20 (mostly) Muslim youth from Zongo – an area within Ntotoroso – blocked the road from Sunyani. I understand that some of them had had contract work with Newmont construction contractors but that their contracts had finished... Sometime in late morning, the police arrived, accompanied by military police. The youth engaged them and there were scuffles. I understand that 13 people were taken into custody and taken to the Sunyani police station. Despite press reports, no one had injuries that required medical attention... Newmont personnel were not present during this event, nor did we call the police or military.
