Indonesia: 104 organisations sign letter urging Vale & investors to take action on alleged human rights impacts arising from Sorowako nickel project

Friends of the Earth (FoE) Japan, together with the Indonesian Environmental Forum (WALHI) South Sulawesi and others, published a letter (linked below) concerning the human rights risks of PT Vale Indonesia's (PTVI) Sorowako nickel project. The letter is addressed to Capital Group, Previ, Mitsui & Co., and BlackRock, Vale's (PTVI's parent company) major shareholders, as well as to as to Sumitomo Metal Mining and the Government of Norway, PTVI's shareholders.

The Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited the companies previously mentioned to disclose any actions taken or soon to be taken in relation to the allegations in the letter with corresponding specific timelines. Vale, Mitsui, and Sumitomo Metal Mining responded, their response are linked below. Capital Group, Previ, and BlackRock did not respond.
