Malawi: SOMO report claims Illovo Sugar evicted locals to expand sugar plantation; company refutes allegations

A report by SOMO alleges Illovo Sugar is complicit in evicting local farmers to pave way for sugarcane plantations. It also raises concerns about the company's sugar cane workers' working conditions. Illovo Malawi has refuted the claims, saying that that it "has never been...involved in land grabs" and that it follows "internationally recognised health and safety standards".
