Nepal: Marriott's response

Thank you for your email to Marriott International dated 5 September 2023, regarding the Aloft Kathmandu hotel in the Chhaya Center Complex in the tourism district of Thamel in Kathmandu, Nepal. We have been looking into the matter and appreciate the opportunity to respond.

As stated in our Human Rights Policy, Marriott International acknowledges and respects the principles contained in the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights. We are committed to conducting our business in a manner consistent with these principles and the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and to respecting human rights.

The Aloft Kathmandu hotel is owned by a third party and Marriott International has no ownership of the hotel. The third party owner of the hotel is responsible for the construction and operation of the hotel. As part of the franchise agreement, Marriott International permits the third party owner to use its Aloft brand for the purposes of its operation of the hotel. Such allegations that you have raised are serious of nature and we will address these with the third party owner appropriately.

We appreciate you bringing this matter to our attention and continuing to raise awareness of these important issues. Thank you again for your outreach and the opportunity to respond.
