Sugarcane workers plan to stop child-labour [Kenya]

The Kenya Union of Sugarcane Planters and Allied Workers (KUSPAW) has mooted a plan to eliminate child labour in Busia County. The Union has decried the alarming rate of Child labour statistics in the region. Nobert Oloo, the Union chairman reiterated that they are out to do all that is possible to fight against child labour in Busia County…He said combating the vice requires multi-sectoral approach from all stakeholders, especially in the Agricultural sector where under age children are lured to work…The research carried out by Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) indicate that under age children in Kenya are employed in subsistence and plantation Agriculture, animal production, fisheries and petty trade.
