Bayer to Stop Making Chemical That Caused 1984 Bhopal Disaster

In a coda to the 1984 Bhopal tragedy, pesticide manufacturer Bayer CropScience has announced it will cease production of methyl isocyante, or MIC, the deadly chemical that caused the deaths of thousands in India. The company cited “strategic and economic considerations” for its decision...Bayer is the last major producer of the compound in the U.S. Environmental activists claimed credit for pressuring Bayer to stop using one of the planet’s most lethal chemicals...more recently, in 2008, an explosion at the plant in Institute killed two people...[also refers to Union Carbide, Dow Chemical]
