Amazon’s workforce “mostly white and male”, says report; company highlights measures taken to be more inclusive

Amazon.com on Friday released a report on its employee diversity that shows its workforce is mostly white and male, a finding that mirrors similar disclosures by high-tech companies such as Google and Facebook. Amazon said its total workforce is 63 percent men and 37 percent women. Among managers, the gender gap is even wider, with men filling 75 percent of those positions…[It] also said 60 percent of its workforce is white; its largest minority group, African Americans, makes up 15 percent of the workforce…[T]he Rainbow PUSH Coalition, has already called on the company to take action to address the disparities…In the report, Amazon emphasized the measures it is taking to make its workplace more inclusive. The company said its affinity groups for women, Asians, blacks and Latinos help to strengthen career development opportunities within the organization. Amazon also said it looks for ways to support STEM education in local schools so as to cultivate a pipeline of diverse talent for jobs in the technology industry…
