Japan Drilling Company did not respond

The Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited Japan Drilling to respond to a report alleging that Japan Drilling is one of the oilfield services companies that “provides services to PTTEP for its Zawtika gas project.” The report alleges that PTTEP awarded a contract to Japan Drilling’s “Hakuryu 5 drilling vessel in 2020, and Justice For Myanmar has confirmed that the company was active in Myanmar in 2021, sending international staff to Myanmar following the military’s attempted coup”. The report asserts that “…oilfield services companies have made themselves complicit with the junta as it commits war crimes and crimes against humanity against the people of Myanmar.”
