Nalco says its Gulf spill dispersant is safe - Dispersants do not cause cancer [USA]

Nalco Holding Co (NLC.N) said on Thursday the dispersant it is manufacturing to help break up the oil spilling into the Gulf of Mexico is safe. The Naperville, Illinois company said its product, Corexit, is a simple blend of six well-established ingredients that biodegrade and do not contain carcinogens or reproductive toxins. Ingredients include those found in body shampoo and fruit juice drinks, Nalco said. All the ingredients have been extensively studied for many years and have been determined safe and effective by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the company said. [also refers to BP]
