SA companies join HIV/AIDS fight

South African citizens have hailed the efforts of Eskom in fighting the HIV/AIDS scourge in South Africa. Eskom...has a clearly defined and drafted policy on HIV/AIDS..."Eskom is acting as a leader and role model among other companies. This stance by Eskom should be encouraged to the rest of the corporate world in South Africa so that people can appreciate that companies are complementing government efforts to fight HIV/AIDS," [said Stephan Mlilo from Soweto]...[T]he company...mak[es] condoms available...provides treatment for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) free of charge...There is access to antiretroviral therapy (ARVs) under the Company's medical aid insurance scheme...Eskom initiated a HIV/AIDS policy as far back as 1988, covering education, surveillance and counselling.
