Shell aims to reduce gas flaring in Nigeria

Oil major Shell said Wednesday it has a two billion dollar campaign in Nigeria to reduce environmentally damaging gas flaring -- burning gas extracted alongside oil...[T]he initiatives include using the gas for power generation in the energy-starved country of 150 million people. Shell said many previous efforts to cut gas flaring in the Niger Delta have been held back by security concerns and funding problems...Nigeria has made repeated demands for oil companies to stop the practice, but none have been respected.
