Paul King, the UK managing director of Transocean, was yesterday grilled by MPs at a select committee hearing about claims that Transocean was unwilling to hear and act on its workers' safety concerns. The accusations were made in an unpublished report by the...Health and Safety Executive. Mr King admitted that there were "positives and negatives" in the report, but said the company had not found any "widespread" evidence of a hostile atmosphere for safety inspectors. "I simply believe these are isolated cases. I would not let my son work for this company if I didn't believe it cares deeply about its people," Mr King said. "I actually find [the suggestion] quite offensive that we take safety less seriously." [also refers to BP]
