... In April 2014, Indigenous have used the instrument of the complaints mechanism of DEG and FMO and submitted a complaint against the Project mentioned-above. This mechanism ensures that individuals and organizations who believe that they are adversely affected by a project financed by the DEG projects, are heard and can file a complaint. An independent body, the so-called. "Independent External Panel", decides on the admissibility of each complaint and is responsible for its processing. The Panel has examined this complaint, accepted and studied (international environmental and social standards in accordance with IFC Performance Standards) in a Compliance Review by DEG and FMO to ensure compliance with its standards. A particular challenge was that the loan agreement with Genisa dastes back to 2011, and thus has been signed before the establishment of the complaint mechanism. In this context, the panel would like to positively highlight the participation of all those involved...
