Trial date set in deaths of Chinese workers [Canada]

Two of three companies charged in connection to the oilsands deaths of two Chinese workers in 2007 go to trial Oct. 3 in St. Albert Provincial Court…for Canadian Natural Resources and SSEC Canada…Meanwhile…Sinopec Shanghai Engineering Company, parent company of SSEC, had not been served…As a result, the Crown is reviewing its options which could include moving ahead with an ex parte (or in absentia) trial against the Chinese company…Almost two years to the day after the accident, OH&S announced the charges: Twenty-nine against CNR, the operator; 10 against Sinopec and 14 against SSEC...The charges included several counts of failing to ensure the health and safety of the workers...
