“Veera Somkwamkid and energy reform activists arrested for defying martial law”, 24 August 2014

 Political activist Veera Somkwamkid and six other members of the…energy reform network were arrested by police...for defying the martial law which bans political gathering of more than five people. Pol Maj-Gen Amnuay Limmano, the acting commissioner of metropolitan police, said police decided to make the arrest after the group refused to obey their request to disperse and to stop their planned march from the Victory Monument to Chatuchak market to highlight their demand for the reform of energy policy…Amnuay said that the group would be held in military custody for seven days before they are to be handed over to Phya Thai police for legal action…Mr Veera’s group’s activity was in coordination with members of the southern-based energy reform network who are now embarking on a long march from Hat Yai toward Bangkok. The march will take about two months to cover the distance of some 1,400 kilometres.
