E-waste – Lifting the lid on recycling [Africa]
The United Nations Environment Programme says that most of the 50 million tonnes of electronic e-waste produced globally finds its way to Africa in the guise of “charitable donations”...Most unusable units end up in dumpsites. What little recycling is done usually happens in small, unventilated rooms, by workers for whom health and safety are of little concern...Greenpeace’s recently published league table of performance ranks Nokia first, followed by Sony Ericsson, Dell and Lenovo.
