Human rights organizations call on Meta to protect the Iranian #MeToo movement

On June 2022, the Swedish civil society organization Qurium revealed in a publication that several Instagram accounts connected to the Iranian #MeToo movement were clearly the subject of a coordinated attack by armies of bots on Meta's social media platform. After that revelations, the human rights organizations ARTICLE 19, Access Now, United for Iran, and Front Line Defenders issued a public statement calling Meta to take measures against the coordinated attack, and in particular to investigate and eliminate the fake followers and do more to protect the freedom of expression of the Iranian human rights defenders, activists, and individuals that have been victims of these attacks.

The Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited Meta to respond to this allegation. The company did respond.
