Kuwait: Labourers protest unhealthy living conditions

"Expatriate workers protest 'unhealthy living conditions' ", 27 September 2015

Around 30 expatriate workers demonstrated recently outside the labor inspection department in Dajeej, expressing dissatisfaction over the ‘unhealthy living conditions’ in a hostel their company provided. The workers said that they were all accommodated in a two-bedroom apartment with only one bathroom. Department inspectors have verified that the workers’ complaints were legitimate, and that the employer had violated the contract conditions. Accordingly, a report was filed recommending suspending the employer’s file under code 31. Meanwhile, the employers admitted to committing the violation, and asked for a grace period to improve his workers’ living and accommodation conditions.
