Whilst the contribution of corporations to periodic crisis is clear, there is also now debate about how companies can eradicate poverty and promote the MDGs through their normal course of business...Transnational companies such as Unilever, Philips, HP, and Johnson & Johnson have all looked at new business models and strategies aimed at low income markets...However, at the macro, policy level, corporations are reluctant to act and this is missing an opportunity to raise the issue of poverty alleviation and the other MDGs with the world’s rich. At this macro-level, businesses need to begin to partner with others (including UN agencies) if we are really going to tackle the scale of poverty and the broader challenges of the other MDGs.
