Cambodia: Indigenous livelihoods at risk as hydroelectric dams on Sesan River and illegal fishing threaten fisheries and cultural practices; incl. cos. non-response

According to CamboJA, indigenous communities along the Sesan River in northern Cambodia are facing the loss of their traditional livelihoods due to the impacts of hydroelectric dams. The dams, including the Lower Sesan 2 dam built by a joint venture involving China Huaneng Group's subsidiary and the Royal Group of Cambodia, have caused a collapse in fisheries and erratic river flow. Villagers, who receive little information about the dams, are struggling to catch fish and are concerned about the potential approval of two more dams that could further damage the already strained ecosystem.

In March, the Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited China Huaneng Group, Royal Group of Cambodia, and EVN to respond to the article. They did not.
