The Comissão Pastoral da Terra - Regional Nordeste 2-CPT (Pastoral Land Commission - Northeast Region 2, CPT) released the report "Starving to death little by little every day: Impacts on human rights caused by the Usina Trapiche company to a  shing community in the municipality of Sirinhaém/state of Pernambuco, Brazil", supported by OXFAM. The detailed report has allegations of human rights violations suffered by a community of artisanal fishermen who lived in Sirinhaem, Pernambuco. The allegations were against Usina Trapiche, a sugarcane company. Despite the various complaints in the justice system, communities claim they suffered forced eviction from their territories. The community has constantly been denouncing environmental impacts. Trapiche sells sugar to large multinationals like Coca-Cola and PepsiCo, which were interviewed by CPT. The two companies said they adopt various responsible practices and requirements from their suppliers, including Trapiche.

There have been several lawsuits filed against Usina Trapiche regarding forced evictions by local community members and the company has been subject to federal and state inquiries. According in to EJAtlas: "In December 2010, Federal Public Prosecutors in Pernambuco started an investigation into the environmental damage caused by Trapiche in the estuary of Sirinhaém and in 2011, the Pernambuco State Environmental Agency also fined Trapiche for the environmental damage."
