On 22 September 2021, during public protests, the secretary of the organisation anti-mining organisation Mali Parbat Surakhya Samiti Mr Abhi Sadepelli and his wife reportedly received death threats by police officers to induce them to support the operations of Hindalco Industries in Odisha, India. The Resource Centre invited Hindalco Industries to respond; it did not.

On 23 August 2023, Abhi Sadapelli was abducted by Chhattisgarh police and reported being chained and subjected to torture for 3 days by the police officials.

In April 2024, Hindalco Industries responded to the Resource Centre's "People under pressure: Human rights defenders & business in 2023" report, which includes information about attacks on HRDs opposing bauxite mining in Odisha.
