Activists: New Balance uses Chinese sweatshop

Human rights activists yesterday charged that Chinese workers making New Balance shoes are being abused, forced to work unpaid overtime and fed food infested with rat feces. The National Labor Committee and China Labor Watch said workers at the Hongyuan Shoe factory are forced to work up to seven days a week and are housed in primitive, crowded dorms. But New Balance responded emphatically that it does not now nor has it ever used the factory. The facility is owned by Likai, which is a major New Balance footwear supplier. But New Balance products are made at a factory in Dongguan City, about 40 minutes away...
