The Frente de Defensa por los intereses de la Comunidad Nativa Santa Clara de Uchunya issued a statement claiming that the palm oil company Ocho Sur is conducting a smear campaign against the community together with some media outlets. They state that ‘Ocho Sur pays for misleading publications and pays for the expenses and trips of our brothers and sisters because of the company's interest in discrediting organisations that have been supporting us in this territorial struggle in solidarity for many years’.
