Wayuu indigenous leader Irama Movil Gámez, who was a candidate for the Board of Directors for indigenous communities before the Regional Autonomous Corporation of La Guajira, Corpoguajira, Colombia, has been attacked in the city of Riohacha. Her security vehicle was shot and two people were injured. Few days later, she received death threats via text messages threatening her life with an explosive device. Movil also denounced that one of her bodyguards were threatened through text messages. She believes that these intimidations are due to her work involving indigenous communities in the defense of the territory, education, health and corruption issues linked to energy, gas and oil development projects.
