Schoffel's response to allegations of abuses in Myanmar garment factories - February 2024 Update

[...]

The events and misconduct listed in the article in one of the North Shore Global (NSG) factories were known to us when the report was published and had already led to far-reaching consequences. The incidents were then thoroughly investigated, and measures such as training initiatives were implemented in response to the increasing complaints about misconduct in this facility.

Despite repeated urgent requests to our partner to remedy the situation and on-site visits, we could only observe limited improvement in working conditions. We therefore decided in the first half of 2023 to gradually withdraw from the factory and to end the collaboration with the partner in a responsible manner. This will take place during 2024. This decision is in line with Schöffel's strategic goal of significantly reducing its involvement in Myanmar due to the deteriorating general conditions. Regardless of this decision, we will of course continue our measures to monitor and improve working conditions in our partner operations in Myanmar, which continues to include extensive training and education. Schöffel maintains close contact and dialogue with Fair Wear on all measures.
