Mozambique: Civil society protests against the Japan Intl. Coop. Agency for lack of transparency, violations of the right to land & other rights in the Prosavana program

Peasants and civil society and human rights organizations from Mozambique, Brazil and Japan sent an open letter to the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to protest against the serious impacts of the agency's actions on Mozambican society under the agrarian development Prosavana program in partnership with the Brazilian and Mozambican government as well. No to ProSavana Campaign, a group to resist and denounce human rights violations related to the program, affirms: “...JICA’s interventions are destabilising the transparent and democratic process in ProSavana, whether through financing, functionaries or consultants. These interventions have negative impacts on the human rights, the right to land and the food security of peasants and their way of life, including their culture, undermining the independence of Mozambican civil society and causing fragmentation...”.
