On April 13, ENEOS Holdingsannounced that their withdrawal from the Yetagun gas project in Myanmar had been approved by the Myanmar “government” on April 12, in reference to the illegitimate military junta.

According to Mekong Watch, FoE Japan and Justice For Myanmar (JFM), this announcement failed to explain its obligations to responsible exit despite their past demands for responsible withdrawal from Myanmar with transparency and through consultation with local communities and civil society stakeholders. They reiterated their call for ENEOS and its partners to disengage from the gas project responsibly.

Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited ENEOS to respond. ENEOS responded that while it "continuously worked on our partners to ensure that gas revenues do not go to the Myanmar junta and have a part in human rights violations," "the content of the discussion cannot be disclosed due to our confidential obligation."
