On 6 March 2024, indigenous Maya Q'eqchi' human rights defender Angelica Choc's house was raided. She has been engaged in advocacy in defense of land, rights and the environment in the eastern El Estor region of Guatemala, in resistance international mining companies and investors.

Choc was one of 13 Q’eqchi’ plaintiffs in the landmark Hudbay Minerals lawsuits, filed in Canada in 2010, and continuing today.
